- What is the Britannia Water Purification
Plant?

- The Britannia Water Purification Plant purifies drinking water
for 750,000 residents of the City of Ottawa. As part of the
Drinking Water Services, the Britannia Water Purification Plant
plays a vital role in the provision of safe drinking water for the
City's population.

- Is transportation provided to get to the
site?

- No. The group must provide their own bus or other means
of transportation. Please call OC Transpo for bus
routes. Parking is provided near the visitor's
entrance.
- How long does the tour
last?

- The tour will last for approximately one hour to one hour &
a half depending upon how in depth you would like to explore the
purification plant.
- Proper Attire:

- The tour takes place inside the plant which is a bit on the
chilly side. Comfortable footwear recommended.

Accessible?

- Some areas on site do not yet offer universal access to people
in wheelchairs or with a mobility impairment. However, if
your group includes a person with a mobility impairment, please do
not hesitate to inform us & we will adjust our tour itinerary
accordingly.
- Why do we need adult volunteers with the
class?

- The plant is a fully operational water purification plant with
narrow walkways, channels & open tanks of water. The
accompanying adults will assist the guide in ensuring the safety of
the children in the group.
- Can we buy food, beverages or souvenirs
at the plant?

- The plant doesn't provide these services.
- Are there public washrooms on
site?

- There are limited washroom facilities at the plant.
Please make sure the students use the washrooms at school prior to
the visit.

Safety Guidelines
The Britannia water Purification Plant is a fully operational water
purification plant. As a result, visitors will be exposed to noise,
open channels of water, as well as stairways and narrow passages.
- The following safety guidelines MUST be followed:

- During the tour, look but don't touch unless you're
given permission
- Stay close to the guide & or adult volunteers
- Absolutely no wandering on your own. We don't want to
lose anyone
- No open-toe footwear is permitted. Comfortable walking
shoes or boots are recommended
- Hard hats will be provided and must be worn at all times
- No running, pushing or climbing over railing is allowed
- Smoking is not permitted in the building or the
passageways
- When you arrive, please inform us by pressing the intercom
button located at the visitor's entrance
