The Float consists of a few tents, Christmas tree, presents and Beavers. The tent and tree will/should be set up by the cubs/scouts and this will occur between 9:15-9:45 a.m. We will need a few volunteers to help with this.
In past years the Beavers have decorated a few large boxes with wrapping paper to place around the tree/float to add some Christmas Cheer and Colour. If anyone would like to take this on this year, that would be great. The Cubs are working on banners and things for the parade.
We have met at Sobeys in the past. There should be a
few leaders there with a few envelopes for each section. The
leaders would collect last minute permission
forms. Leaders should be encouraged to collect forms at their
regular meetings prior to the event. If the leaders choose, they
can use the one page event/tour
permission form; so the majority of kids will be signed up on the one
paper.
This is the best spot for meeting since the road beyond will be closed
to traffic anyway and it is a short walk to the staging area.
As kids and leaders show up at Sobeys they will be walked
down to the float location.
Everyone should be at the float by 9:50 a.m. to get into position and
ready for the start.
Beavers ride the float, Cubs, scouts and Leaders walk behind or in front
of the float, depending on what else is around us.
The staging area will be along Terry Fox between Castlefrank Road and Winchester. The parade will follow along Castlefrank, turn up Abbeyhill Drive and will proceed to Hazeldean Mall.
At the end of the parade (we wrap up at Hazeldean Mall) a leader from each section must remain until all kids are picked up. Then a few leaders will need rides back to Sobeys to pick up cars. Arrange with parents to meet their children near the Liquor Store. This is well away from the chaos and should make it easy for people to find each other.
The float also has to be taken apart very quickly at the end of the parade (before it turns back onto Eagleson) so please lend a hand if you happen to be close by.
At the parade end or within a few days the permission forms should get back to the individual sections to record involvement.
Encourage Beavers to bring their Beaver blankets for warmth on the float. Have everyone dress for the weather but wear your neckers for identification.
There are often photographers close by so please ensure photo release forms are completed or that you can identify those not wishing published photos.
If there are any questions, or if there is anything I have
missed, please let me know.
We'll send out reminders again closer to the date.
Thanks
