14 February, 2003
This Week (and last): We have been working on Kub Kars in preparation for the big 3rd Kanata Kub Kar rally at St Anne's School 24 February. Seven Cubs also attended Cuboree at Stanley's Farm 1 February.
Next Week: We will start the Kub Kar competitions with some in-house racing and style judging. Parents will be the judges so if you can, return for your Cub about 30 minutes early and judge the Kars with the forms provided while we are doing badge work and skit preparation. Cubs should finish up their Kars at home this week by putting on the wheels (make sure they turn easily - races are won on small differences!) and adding any last minute decorations. Don't add any more weight though - since the Kars will be weighed immediately before the race.
Thanks to all the parents (and to Wayne Fontaine and John Reid) for coming out and helping us with our Kub Kar work.
Badge Work: This week is badge testing so have your Cubs prepared to present a badge or star (most should have completed the Green Star by now). Cubs have completed Handicraft Badge Item #2 and those who attended Cuboree also completed Green Star A7.
Scout Week: Scout Week is 16 - 22 February. In recognition of this we have 2 events planned: 1) wear your uniform to school day (20 Feb) and 2) an outdoor Campfire at Bridlewood Community Elementary School 6:30 - 7:30 also on Thursday 20 Feb. See the notice on the Website http://3rd.kanatacubs.com/news_events/events/SGWcampfire.html and see you there! Dress for the weather.
Rink Duty: Thanks to Herb Ballantyne who organized our pack's week at rink duty. The rink was in great shape at the end of the week. The Volunteer bond on the website has been updated.
Winter Camp - a REMINDER: We are in the process of planning for our winter camp on the weekend of 22/23 March. We intend to book the YMCA facilities near Dunrobin (about 20 minutes drive from here) which will include heated cabins, meals and activities. Our intended programme at the moment is expected to include winter hikes and observation, snowshoeing, winter games, winter camp craft, and camp cooking. Costs are estimated at the moment at $43 per Cub, $33 per adult. Since we need to book, with deposit by the end of February we need to have an indication of how many Cubs and parent helpers will attend. Consequently, please pass in the following information to a leader by 18 February:
| Cub Attending: | ________________________________________ |
| Parents Attending: | ________________________________________ |
| ________________________________________ | |
Parent Survey Form: Group is also trying to get feedback from parents on your opinion of the programme to date. Please note the questionnaire on our website (http://3rd.kanatacubs.com/forms/3Ksurvey.html) and bring it in to me when you can. Thanks for the help.
Yours in Scouting
