B Pack Weasel and Cub Mascot
Third Kanata B Pack Banner

17 January, 2003

This Week: We took advantage of the cold weather to discuss winter cubbing.  We talked about the consequences of cold (hypothermia, frostbite and winter first aid) and dressing warmly for winter.  We then practiced what we talked about by going outside to practice snowshoeing and ice block curling.  No Cubs were frozen but we did warm up with hot chocolate and rice krispie squares afterwards.

Next Week: is a regular meeting.  We will hold an international night by talking about different cultures, their games and food.  We will welcome some visitors from Korea to join us for the meeting and tell us about their home.  Cubs are asked to bring some memento (which can withstand the risks of a meeting) or food from their family's native background to present to the pack.  If there is enough food, we will have a small party at the end.  (If you send your cub with food, please include a card indicating what it is and the background.  Note if there are any nuts included.)

Badge Work: Cubs completed Items #1 and 2 in the Winter Cubbing and Green Star A9.  (Even though it was a fairly clear night we could not do the astronomy portion of this badge - so bad was the light pollution.  However, if you can get to one of the local parks away from the worst of the light on a clear night, some of the winter constellations, like Orion and Casseopia are clearly visible.)  Badge Testing will be held this week (20 January).

Forms: At the last meeting we passed out photos taken during our visit to Loblaws.  Some of you may have noticed that one of them (with two Cubs) was published in a recent edition of the Kanata Kourier.  We were unable to provide them with a copy of the picture with the full group photo since we do not have permission forms from all parents for public publication of your child's photo.  The forms are available on the website.  Please provide me with a copy (with permission granted or denied) as soon as possible so we know what we can publish in the community.  (Still need these from most cubs.)

Yours in Scouting
