B Pack Weasel and Cub Mascot
Third Kanata B Pack Banner

18 December, 2002

This Week: The cubs ended the year preparing a small Christmas party with skits and laid a table for snacks.  They completed the end month badge testing as well. Cubs completed Handicraft Badge item #3 (last week actually) and Blue Star item A #10.

Badges: The Cubs earned the following: Sebastien (Reader badge), Garrett (Disability Awareness, Family Helper and Team Player badges), Peter T (Black Star), Alex (Collector and Athlete badges and Language Strip), Thomas (Language Strip), and Adam (Pet Care badge).  Additionally we finally were able to award Jeffrey (Cooking badge), Philip (Swimming badge) and Kevin (Swimming badge) the badges previously announced.

Next Week: This was the last meeting of the year.  The next meeting is a regular meeting to be held as usual on 6 January.  We will have a preliminary schedule for the winter season available at that time.

Rink Duty: Again a reminder: The Group has confirmed that we will continue with our support to our sponsor (the Bridlewood Community Association) in maintaining their rink (at the Bridlewood Community Elementary School) this winter.  Each Colony/Pack/Troop in the Group will have a week to maintain the Rink, including flooding and snow clearing.  This is a volunteer bond activity.

I still have no volunteer as our Pack representative to coordinate our week of duty.  Our pack needs a parent volunteer to coordinate our participation in this activity which, at the moment, is scheduled for the week starting 26 January.  (The group already has a group rink coordinator.) The pack coordinator would organize call out for flooding/clearing operations and hold the key to the shed and storage room where the equipment is kept.  (I can help on where stuff is and how it is used). If you can help us out with this please let me know as soon as possible - I have to get back to the Group with our Pack's rink coordinator name before the season begins at the end of this month.

Winter Cuboree will be held as a one-day event 01 February 2003 at Stanley's Farm between Metcalf and Edwards.... approximately a 40min drive from Kanata.  Information and forms for signing up are now posted to our website at http://3rd.kanatacubs.com/news_events/events/beaveree-cuboree.html.  However, to let the organizers know how many people to expect (and negotiate with the host) please let me know by 20 December if your Cub will be participating.  Note too the requirement for a couple of parent volunteers to help run the games and activities at this event and let me know if you can help.  I will need forms and cheques (Payable to Scouts Canada - 3rd Kanata Scouts "B Pack" at the first meeting in January.

Merry Christmas!

Yours in Scouting
