B Pack Weasel and Cub Mascot
Third Kanata B Pack Banner

19 February, 2003

This Week: We had our pack Kub Kar Rally to judge the various car styles and race them amongst ourselves.  You still have a few days left to tweek your kar for next week's final.  Make sure you don't add too much weight though - Kars will be weighed again.  We also did Badge testing. Not many cubs have been working on their badge work.  We have covered many items in our meetings but a lot more can be completed at home (or even school in some cases).  In some instances where Cubs are doing skiing, skating or team sports on their own, they may already have completed a badge without knowing it - look through the book!  Congrats to though who brought a friend to meeting this week - how did they like it?

Next Week: We will hold our regular meeting at St Anne's School (at the top of Grassy Plains Dr).  Enter the gym by the side entrance.  This is a combined 3rd Kanata Cubs meeting for our final Kub Kar rally with prizes and trophies for the top cars in the group.  Again, thanks to all parents who have helped us with the Kar building and who came out this week with our Pack rally.

Badge Work: Cubs completed the following: Garrett Lihou (Cooking Badge), Sebastien Goodchild ( Team Player, Skier Badges), Kevin Spaiches (Green Star, Handicraft Badge, Language Strip) Jonathan Rankin (Observer, Winter Cubbing, Handicraft*, Red Star*), Eric Vandenburg (Green Star, Camping, cooking skiing badges) and Philip Ballantyne (Green Star, Camping, Cooking and Cyclist Badges).  (* to be awarded).  Did we miss anyone?

Scout Week: Scout Week is 16 - 22 February.  In recognition of this we have 2 events planned: 1) wear your uniform to school day (20 Feb) and 2) an outdoor Campfire at Bridlewood Community Elementary School 6:30 - 7:30 also on Thursday 20 Feb.  See the notice on the Website http://3rd.kanatacubs.com/news_events/events/SGWcampfire.html and see you there!  Dress for the weather.  We would like an indication of how many (including parents) will be attending so that we can plan for refreshments - pass to me via e-mail by 19 Feb at m.tunnicliffe@sympatico.ca.

Winter Camp - a REMINDER: We are in the process of planning for our winter camp on the weekend of 22/23 March.  We intend to book the YMCA facilities near Dunrobin (about 20 minutes drive from here) which will include heated cabins, meals and activities.  Our intended programme at the moment is expected to include winter hikes and observation, snowshoeing, winter games, winter camp craft, and camp cooking.  Costs are estimated at the moment at $44 per Cub, $36 per adult.  Since we need to book, with deposit by the end of February we need to have an indication of how many Cubs and parent helpers will attend.  Consequently, please pass in the following information to a leader as soon as possible (at the moment only 5 cubs and 4 parents other than leaders have indicated interest).  Sent separately is a draft programme which we are developing.

Parent Survey Form: Group is also trying to get feedback from parents on your opinion of the programme to date.  Please note the questionnaire on our website (http://3rd.kanatacubs.com/forms/3Ksurvey.html) and bring it in to me when you can.  Thanks for the help.

Yours in Scouting
