19 September, 2002

Welcome Back to Cubbing for the 2002/2003 season. We have authority to commence the programme (we now have a volunteer for Group Chair, Heather Kirk). Our first meeting will occur next Monday 23 September.

This Week is an orientation to Cubbing for the Tenderpads (and a reminder to the returning Cubs of all the things they forgot over the summer). We start at 6:30PM sharp and finish at 8:00PM. We meet at WO Mitchell school in the gym.

Next Week (September 30) is a parents' night at which the parents can meet the Leaders, and when we will outline the Cub programme, distribute forms and answer questions. It has typically taken about one hour. Again we will start at 6:30 PM in the gym. The Cubs don't attend this meeting.

Themes: The Cub programme is focused on themes based on community, self development and the outdoors. Two of them become the focus of each year's programme and each nights activities, including teaching sessions, games and crafts focus on some aspect of the goal for the year. Each night usually has a theme or activity focus. For the Fall season the tentative themes are as follows:

23 September - Introduction to Cubbing
28-29 September - Fort Henry Sleepover
30 September - Parents' night
05 October - Apple Day
07 October - Recycling
14 October - THANKSGIVING (No Cubs)
[20 October - Fall Hike: Trailcraft]
21 October - Trail Signs/Investiture of the Tenderpads
28 October - Maps and Compass
04 November - Communications and Signaling
11 November - Astronomy Night (weather permitting)
18 November - Law in the Community
25 November - Pet Care
02 December - [School closed] Visit to a Water Treatment Plant
09 December - Cooking
16 December - Xmas Party/preparing for a party. Last day of Cubs for the season

Our Website is http://3rd.kanatacubs.com/ in which you will find these notices, links to upcoming events, supporting forms to download and some record information. For those registered for the Fort Henry trip, please check it for the latest information.

Badge Work: For those returning Cubs who have not already done so, please check the website for the summary of all of the Cub Achievements for last year (on the Home Page) and ensure that your Cub's book has been updated accordingly. We will institute a regular Badge testing night each month this year but would like to ensure that we have last year's records up to date.

Yours in Scouting
