22 October, 2002
This Week: we focused on a Trailcraft theme and invested our new Tenderpads, Sixers and Seconders. We talked about trail signs, preparing for a hike, what to do if lost and how not to get lost. We completed the first two items on the Trailcraft badge. A game gave the Cubs (well, the observant ones, anyway) a chance to look for trail markers in finding a "lost" cub.
Badge Work: Cubs completed the first two items on the Trail craft badge. For the cubs at the 21 October meeting, please sign them off in their books. We then gave them some homework for the last item in that badge. They are to make up a trail pack with emergency items (look in their Cub Book with them to see the sort of things which should be included. This list in the Book is not inclusive - you can include small first aid items, string, a safety pin for instance.) We provided a small container for the cubs to make up their pack in (for those who did not get one, we will have them next week, so bring your items anyway!) Cubs should be prepared to discuss why they included what they did in their packs.
Badge Testing Night will be 28 October. Have your Cubs prepared to discuss the badge work they have completed with a leader in their Six. Please let Rakshaw (mikevdburg@rogers.com) know before next meeting, what badge(s) your cub will be completing so we can have them on hand.
Next Week: This will be a regular meeting focusing on Maps and Compass work.
Fall Hike: The fall hike will be held Sunday 27 October at 1:00 PM to 2:30PM. We will meet at 1:00 PM in the parking lot of the Old Quarry Trail (right across from Hazeldean Mall) and hike down the trail for about an hour working on Observer, Naturalist and Trailcraft items. We expect to be back around 1:15 for a snack and pick up. Parents provide transportation to and from the parking lot. There will be an in area activity sheet at the site for registration. Dress for the weather - neckers only are required.
A Special Thanks to Jayne and Simon Taylor for sewing up the Pack's neckers. We did not get the material to them until Friday so they had a busy weekend making them up in time for Investiture!
