Cuboree information is posted on our website. All registration has been completed. Have a great winter outing!
Winter Camp information will be posted this week together with information on the programme and registration information. In the meantime, visit the MacSkimming web site and check out the TRAIL'S END building where we will be staying and and have a look inside. Here is a site map to give you an idea of where it's situated.
Kub Kars are a major event in the Cub programme (as you can see from the schedule above). This week we will be designing and cutting out the cars with help from the leaders and interested parents.
The Cubs do not need to wear their uniforms next week - just something appropriate for woodworking.
We need parents to help out and to bring tools and operate power tools.
I will supply Kub Kar kits, two weigh scales, lead weights, white glue, glue gun, sandpaper, 1 large tarp.
For those who are new to Kub Kars ...
The purpose of the Kub Kar is to help Cubs build a team relationship with their parent or partner, experience a sense of accomplishment, learn good sportsmanship, and enjoy the fun and excitement of competition.
The model cars are built from a kit which contains a wooden block (pine), four wheels and four nails (axles). Under the guidance of their parents or helpers the Cubs shape, sand, paint and decorate their cars to their own liking (the bottoms of the cars should remain unpainted). The cars are assembled according to specific dimensions and weight requirements as set forth in the Official Rules. The cars must go through inspection and once passed may enter the race.
The cars run down a special 3 lane track. All cars must be free wheeling with no stored energy, propelled only by gravity.
On Monday February 18 we plan to enter into a Group Kub Kar Rally with the other two Cub Packs in Bridlewood in celebration of Scout/Guide week.
Rink Duty is on hold at the moment. As indicated in the Group Committee report for this month, the ability to flood the Rink at the Bridlewood Communty center is negated due to a faulty fire plug connection to the school. When this is rectified we will let you know and will contact you by phone when we have specific details on the nights we will be going out for flooding and scraping. However, given the warm weather we have been having lately, maybe the current difficulties are a blessing in disguise. Thanks to all of those who have indicated an interest in getting involved.
Yours in Scouting
