B Pack Weasel and Cub Mascot
Third Kanata B Pack Banner

2 October, 2002

This Week (28/29 Sep): Five Cubs from B pack attended the Fort Henry Sleepover with the combined 3rd Kanata Cubs event. They lived a day in the life of a 19th Century British soldier, did a history hunt, watched musket and bayonet drill, learned some parade square drill in a scarlet soldier's waistcoat and participated in a ghost walk. A taste of Canada's early heritage!

On 30 September, we held the annual parent's night to brief parents on the Cub programme in general and B Pack's programme in particular. To summarize the items outstanding from this meeting:
  1. please ensure that we receive a copy of your Cub's Physical Fitness Certificate by next week.
  2. we are still looking for a volunteer to sew up 10 neckers (we provide the material) prior to investiture on 21 October.
  3. we are still looking for one more leader!
  4. can anyone volunteer to manage the Pack's website? (involves posting the weekly notices, links to special notices, and the Volunteer Bond update).

Next Week (7 Oct): We will continue with the Tenderpad instruction in a Regular Meeting. The theme of this meeting will be RECYCLING and we will help the Cubs well on their way to completing the Recycling badge (see Cub Book p. 49). We will first be discussing ways Cubs can help reduce waste in the home and school - you may wish to prepare your Cub by getting him to think about how we might save on heat and electricity at school. We will also be having a craft competition. Please have your Cub bring 3 small items which can be recycled into a craft object (things that can be cut, pasted or punched to make a useful object or craft item) to the next meeting. Finally if you have any old clothes or blankets that your Cub can bring to be donated to the Salvation Army, we will be taking up a collection to show how things can be recycled through donation.

Special Events: This weekend is Apple Day (Saturday October 5, 09:00 - 11:00). This is a Third Kanata Scouts event, meeting at the Bridlewood Community Centre. It should take about 90 minutes and involves parents and their Cubs. Cubs (who have their uniforms) should wear them but dress for the weather! (I will be late but expect to be there by the close to take the names of those from B Pack who participated in this Volunteer Bond event so please identify yourselves to me or any of the other B Pack leaders to ensure you and your Cub get credit for participation.)

If you can't make Apple Day, B Pack is doubling up with B Colony in Yard Waste Bag sales at Hazeldean Mall 06:00 - 08:00 PM Friday 4 October as an additional fundraiser (a great introduction to our Recycling theme!). If you can spare an hour or so with your Cub in this time frame, let me know (it is also a Volunteer Bond activity).

Our Website is http://3rd.kanatacubs.com/ in which you will find these notices, links to upcoming events, supporting forms to download and some record information. Please check it for information on upcoming events.

Badge Work: The following Cubs who attended the Fort Henry Camp completed: Purple Star (A#9), Canadian Heritage Badge (#6 - yes, the British Army/Canadian Militia was a distinct culture in Canada!), one camp in the Camping Badge (#1) and the Canadian Camper Award (#4). Please mark these items off in your Cub's book with the date 28/29 Sep 02 (if they are not already completed) with a star to show they were done at a meeting:
Bryan Cole
Connor Smith
Thomas Thompson
Peter Tunnicliffe
Eric Vandenburg
